Pepita.hu ranked as the third largest Hungarian e-retailer
Based on online retail turnover in 2023, Pepita.hu secured the third position in the GKID ranking of the largest Hungarian companies by revenue. Furthermore, among all Hungarian e-retailers, Pepita.hu achieved the highest growth in the eTOPLISTA ranking for 2023.
According to GKID’s ranking of 2023 online retail turnover, Pepita.hu is the third-largest Hungarian e-commerce platform, following Euronics and Aqua. The company also achieved a prestigious position in the overall standings, ranking 6th on the list of “The 15 Most Recognised Online Retailers in Hungary.” In doing so, they outperformed major, well-known competitors such as AboutYou, Ecipo.hu, Notino, and Shein. Among the 15 most recognised online retailers in Hungary listed by GKID, 9 are international stores operating without a local Hungarian presence, 3 are internationally backed but have Hungarian operations, and three are fully Hungarian-owned enterprises. “We are proud to be one of the three Hungarian-owned online retailers that made it into the top 15,” said József Dorcsinecz, CEO of Pepita Group Zrt.
Pepita.hu stands out not only in terms of brand recognition but also for its improved ranking. In 2023, it recorded the highest growth among all Hungarian e-retailers on the eTOPLISTA. This is particularly notable given that, according to GKID, six out of the top 15 e-retailers experienced a decline in online turnover in 2023, while nine saw an increase. Among these, only five exceeded the annual average inflation rate of 17.6%.
“The GKID rankings measure Hungarian market revenue,” explained the CEO. “However, at Pepita Group Zrt., our export activities have also significantly contributed to our growth, and we have expanded in this area as well.” Although Pepita.hu originated in Hungary, Pepita Group Zrt. has expanded into new markets over the past year. In addition to Romania and Slovakia, Pepita.com is now available in Poland, Germany, and Austria. Like Pepita.hu, the international sites also operate as marketplaces, allowing Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to expand beyond the domestic market and explore international opportunities.
Beyond its initial focus on baby and maternity products, the company has successfully established itself in new categories, including consumer electronics. Despite the intense competition in Hungary’s technology and electronics sector, Pepita.hu achieved a 57% growth in gross sales in these product categories in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
