Hungary’s export champion aims to double its performance again in 2025
Hungarian-founded Pepita Group has achieved the most significant growth among export-focused e-commerce companies in Central and Eastern Europe over the past five years, expanding its gross merchandise volume 37-fold in that period. Based on the international results of the first quarter of 2025, this growth trajectory is continuing: Hungary’s export champion may double its export turnover again by the end of the year. With its recent expansion into Croatia, the company has entered its eighth European market, giving it the widest regional presence among marketplaces currently available in Hungary.
According to research by Growww Digital, Pepita Group’s GMV – excluding logistics revenue – grew to €70 million between 2019 and 2024, a 37-fold increase. With this performance, the Hungarian-founded group is now the fastest-growing e-commerce exporter in the Central and Eastern European region, outpacing the growth rates of well-known brands such as Romania’s eMAG, Czech-based Rohlik (Kifli.hu), Slovakia’s GymBeam, and Alensa from the Czech Republic. „We are proud of this achievement, which is the result of our team’s dedication and the clear vision we have for helping Hungarian merchants enter international markets” – said József Dorcsinecz, Co-Founder of Pepita Group.
Pepita Group: A bridge between Central and Eastern European markets
Pepita’s mission is to connect the countries of the region. As of April 2025, the company had a presence in seven European countries – Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, Austria, and Bulgaria. In mid-April, Pepita launched its operations in Croatia, marking its eighth market entry. “This expansion gives us the broadest international coverage among all marketplaces operating in Hungary within the Central and Eastern European region,” explained József Dorcsinecz. “But this is not only about Pepita’s growth: we play a key role in enabling Hungarian e-commerce businesses to expand internationally. With our regional presence, we provide real export opportunities and help merchants grow faster abroad.” Currently, one in four of Pepita’s marketplace partners has already entered international markets, selling in at least one foreign country through Pepita.com – most commonly in Romania, Slovakia, or Poland. József Dorcsinecz also noted that the Pepita Group achieved 80% growth across its international markets in the first quarter of 2025, primarily driven by strong performance in Romania and Poland. If current trends continue, the company could double its international sales volume by the end of the year.
